ABOUT US

Who we are

We are a small charity that own 10 self catering caravans, for holiday rentals at affordable prices, for families and people with disabilities and their carers or those who would otherwise struggle to afford a holiday. Eight of our ten caravans are wheelchair accessible. Anyone is welcome to book with us, there is no set criteria required.

We were founded in 1969, by a group of former Scouts who believed that everyone, regardless of their health or circumstances, is entitled to the same quality of life, and deserve the freedom to have fun and relaxation.  In other words, a proper holiday!

We work with grant funders and a children's hospital that funds breaks for families with children receiving kidney treatment.

Details of our Directors / Trustees can be found here.  We have a small, part-time admin team - their details can be found here.

Our background

In the late 1960s, Charles Porter, a former Rover Scout, set about improving his front garden. He installed a wishing well and soon found that people passing by were throwing coins into it. He decided to donate the money to charity and raised £400 in his first year.

Charles had two great-nieces with special needs. When he saw how difficult it was for them to find a holiday accommodation, he purchased an adapted caravan and then decided this caravan should be used by any families living with special needs. From this small start, The Holiday Homes Trust quickly grew. We now have caravans at ten holiday parks around the UK and thousands of families have enjoyed holidays with us.
